Growing Bonsai As A Leisure Pursuit Is Absorbing

Growing bonsai trees is a fascinating and very rewarding hobby. Growing bonsai trees is not an expensive hobby with few tools being required. A bonsai is a living sculpture that anyone would be very proud to have.

Bonsai are pot grown trees that are specifically developed to be a smaller version of the full size plant or tree. Bonsai can be grown from almost any perennial wood stemmed trees and shrubs that develop branches, and is able to develop small through pot confinement with the assistance of crown and root trimming.

Bonsai can be grown from seed, young shoots taken from the wild (please observe any laws regarding taking wild plants in your area), or can be ordered as ready grown bonsai trees. Although growing bonsai from seed is the slowest route, but you will then have total control of how your bonsai will grow.

Bonsai trees are planted in special bonsai pots that not only restrict the roots of the bonsai, but are also designed to complement the appearance of the bonsai. Specialist soils can be purchased that will give you the ideal environment for your bonsai tree to grow.

Many methods are used to shape your bonsai tree and give it a unique character. These specialist techniques include leaf trimming, wiring, grafting, short term dwarfing and deadwood, (aging and adding character to bark). Only a few specialist tools are needed to sculpt bonsai, and these can easily be bought quite cheaply. Everything you require to get started can easily be bought from a bonsai nursery.

If you wonder if growing bonsai is for you, I would say give it a try, bonsai are simple to grow, and take very little of your time, every bonsai is unique, and who doesn’t admire a bonsai.

Bonsai are available as indoor and outdoor types, some bonsai are best if left outside in the summer months and then brought inside during the winter.

And for anyone that likes the idea, you can even purchase artificial bonsai trees.
